Hosting a Food Drive
Thank you for your desire to help the families of Hancock County who have an immediate “crisis or emergency” need for the assistance we can provide by conducting a food drive for the Hancock County Food Pantry.
Following are some suggestions to make your food drive more efficient and practical for all concerned:
• Do not use containers that are too large to collect the food because they can be difficult or impossible for us to move when full. If this is not practicable, please plan to be able to break down these containers later. Banana boxes or milk crates are the most efficient. The Food Pantry will provide them on request.
• If at all possible, please sort the donated goods into like categories such as corn, rice, soup, canned milk, etc. As an all-volunteer organization, it can sometimes be very difficult for us to provide the resources necessary to do this once we have received the unsorted food from you.
• We will be happy to use our resources to pick up the food when you finish your drive. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for assistance. We’ll do our best to
make your efforts a success. Call us at 467-2790.
Following is a list of preferred food & personal hygiene items:
• All canned vegetables, fruit or tomato products
• Pork & beans
• Peanut butter
• Jelly
• Soup
• Cooking oil
• Canned meats: tuna, spam, etc.
• Canned milk
• Dry goods: mac & cheese, rice, flour, pasta, dry beans, packaged potatoes, oatmeal and grits
• Dish soap
• Laundry soap
• Bar soap
• Toilet tissue
