Hancock Medical employees recently held their annual Thanksgiving food drive to benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry. Food Pantry Executive Director Jim Collins, third from left in the first row, is also a member of the Hancock Medical Auxiliary and was at the hospital volunteering when the 285 pounds of food was collected and delivered to the food pantry.

Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast cast members recently participated in the annual drive to collect food for the Hancock County Food Pantry. Cast members generously contributed over 2000 lbs of non-perishable items to stock the shelves of the pantry for the holidays. Hollywood also made a donation of 65 turkey/ham vouchers. This year’s drive was a friendly competition between the departments as a Walk a Mile in My Shoes Program. Another 200 lbs of food was collected from the Kris Kringle annual golf event held at The Bridges Golf Club on December 11th. North Bay Elementary Food Drive

In an effort to support needy families during the holiday season, the students and staff at North Bay Elementary hosted a food drive to benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry. A total of 2,195 cans of food were generously donated. Students from Mrs. Magan Russell’s class at North Bay totaled all of the donations and organized them for delivery to the Food Pantry. Hancock County Food Pantry Receives $30,000 from the Walmart Foundation

Hancock County Food Pantry received a $30,000 contribution today as part of the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program. The grant will assist with feeding 600 families per month and supports the organization’s mission to provide food and personal hygiene products to people in need.
“We are extremely appreciative of the contribution provided by the Walmart Foundation,” said Marcie Baria, chairman of the board of Hancock County Food Pantry. “This will help us to provide food and essential items to local families in need.”
The grant was presented during a check presentation ceremony held today at the Food Pantry facility. During the ceremony, Baria accepted the $30,000 check from representatives of Walmart and the Walmart Foundation.
“Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are very pleased to support the Hancock County Food Pantry and are committed to helping those in the communities where we serve,” said Walmart Store Manager Gary Russ. “With this grant, we are hopeful that we can continue to help families in need.”

Hancock High School's Annual Homecoming Food Drive

Hancock High School’s Annual Homecoming Food Drive was a huge success. Each grade collected canned goods which were lined up on the football field. Seniors won the contest with 115 yards of cans., juniors were second at 80 yards, sophomores third at 50 yards and freshmen last at 10 yards of cans. The Hancock High Jr. ROTC helped place the cans on the field, collected them after the assembly and then loaded all the cans onto trucks.
A total of 4500lbs of cans were collected and were donated to the Hancock County Food Pantry to help them feed hungry Hancock County families.

Coast Young Professionals Food Drive at the Hollywood Casino

Donated food is being collected by the Coast Young Professionals (part of the Chamber of Commerce) across the Gulf Coast in support of the Walking on Water (WOW) Bridge Walk. The bridge walk will take place on Saturday, August 29th at the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge – the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina devastating the Gulf Coast. The Coast Young Professionals are hoping to collect over 10,000 pounds of food to donate to area food pantries and food banks. Hollywood Casino cast members will be donating their collected food to the Hancock County Food Pantry.

Checks for $2,183 were distributed to eight South Mississippi food pantries. Souper Mudfest was held on Second Saturday in March in Old Towne BSL. The Food Pantry received $1750 from the event.
“Souper Mudfest was a huge, huge success,” event organizer Nancy Moynan said Monday. “Local potters did a bang-up job on soup bowls.” Artists Regan Carney, Joy Mehrten, Judy Lee, Julie Nelson, Steve Barney, Walt Brightman, Dale Simmons, Madeline Nolan and Georgia Reeves created the bowls. Approximately 724 were sold Saturday in conjunction with the Second Saturday Artwalk, and the proceeds will be used to benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry, Hancock County Tourism Development Bureau and the Old Town Merchants Assoc. “And thanks to all the merchants for providing such fabulous soups to make this such a wonderful year for Souper Mudfest.”

St. Thomas Youth Donation

The youth of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Diamondhead held a "Souper Bowl" special event on Super Bowl Sunday with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry. This is an annual event at St. Thomas and a variety of homemade soups were prepared and marketed to the Diamondhead community.
